WHY ‘THE CHANGING ROOM’
‘The Changing Room’ speaks to the time and place between the ‘before’ and the ‘after’; between who we are and who we want to become.
It reframes architecture as something that participates in life, not just houses it.
Quite simply, it is a room for change.
At it’s core is a simple belief: people are not fixed.
We are always adjusting, evolving, refining — sometimes subtly, sometimes completely.
“Changing” acknowledges that life is not static, and neither are the people we design for. It positions the practice around process, not product. A “room” makes space tangible — human-scaled and intimate. Not buildings. Not structures. Rooms. Places where life actually happens.
A “changing room” is something more specific still. It is private, reflective, transitional, and honest — a space where you pause, assess, and recognise yourself anew. Our name captures the sanctity of that transition, not just the outcome.
Working across a variety of sectors, The Changing Room specialises in Residential, Hospitality, Retail and Workplace projects. We work through a series of stages from initial engagement through to on-site services and we are dedicated to lending our extensive experience to a diverse range of project scales.
We design spaces that go beyond function or form; spaces that support the way you live, think, and feel. Our work is grounded in care with a focus on creating environments that feel intuitive, personal, and quietly enduring.
The studio aims to make a lasting contribution to our communities and the built environments that supports us in a sustainable manner.

OUR SERVICES
Our role is to guide you from initial ideas through to a resolved, buildable outcome. No project is too big or too small, each is delivered with the same level of care. We believe in honesty, transparency and unpretentiousness as key components of our methodology and look to these values to guide both our vision and work.
We work across a range of residential, commercial and hospitality projects, including:

We also offer pared back services to assist clients at different design stages. This design service deals with critical design decisions, planning and materiality which can then be forwarded to an architectural draughting service to prepare building consent documentation.
